The United Nations Security Council has unanimously voted to extend sanctions imposed on South Sudan, expressing deep concern at the failure of the country’s leaders to fully implement their commitments to the Peace Agreement.

    The resolution extends sanctions for a year, and welcomes the formation of a coalition government between South Sudanese President Salva Kiir and his rival, Vice President Riek Machar, in April, but it also recognizes much remains to be done to achieve a peaceful settlement.

    The Council has requested the Panel to provide a report in 120 days analyzing how the transfer of arms to the country is affecting the implementation of the peace agreement.
