According to the police, the woman got out of her house when the man was damaging her vehicle and asked him to stop.

The Ras Al Khaimah Police have arrested an Arab driver who allegedly ran over a 62-year-old woman deliberately, following a dispute. The woman sustained severe injuries in the incident, said a senior police officer.

The 25-year-old driver, who later proved to have a criminal record, also damaged a four-wheel-drive car parked in front of the victim's house in Al Mamura area of Ras Al Khaimah.

"The suspect has run over the elderly woman on purpose, following which the victim received gruesome injuries," Major-General Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of the RAK Police, said late on Thursday. The victim was rushed to the intensive care unit of the Saqr Hospital in a critical condition, he added.

Lt Col Waleed Kanfash, chief of Al Mamura police, said they were alerted to the incident on Thursday, about 11am. "We were informed that an old woman had been shifted to the hospital after being run over by an unidentified driver."

According to the police, the woman got out of her house when the man was damaging her vehicle and asked him to stop. Then, he went to his house, which is close to the victim's house.

"But he got into his car and rammed into the victim's car. Then he ran over the victim and fled the scene, said Lt Col Kanfash, adding that the police managed to track him down and arrest him.

"When the police approached him, he attacked them using a knife. But the policemen controlled him and arrested him."
