The Indian Army would induct women in the Corps of Military Police and a proposal is being finalised for inducting around 800 women for it -- with an yearly intake of 52, it was announced on Friday.
The decision was announced at the Army Chiefs' Conclave, a forum of former Army chiefs, who were told that with increasing needs for investigation of gender-specific allegations and crime, a necessity was felt to introduce women in the Corps of Military Police.
The Indian Army so far does not have women in any kind of combat roles.
The Indian Army is also starting two more residential Army Public Schools which are likely to come up at Bhopal and Mamun in Punjab.
These schools will have a capacity of 2,000 children each, and around Rs 100 crore has been sanctioned for this by the Defence Ministry.
As of now, the Army Welfare Educational Society (AWES) is managing 137 schools and 11 professional colleges.

Paris - Emiratesvoice
Two months after legendary designer Azzedine Alaia's sudden death plunged the fashion world into mourning, an exhibition in homage to the "King of Cling" opens Monday in his studios in Paris. The Tunisian-born designer, renowned for the way his clothes hugged the body, died suddenly in November aged 82, reportedly of heart failure after falling down the stairs at his home. The diminutive maverick, who ignored fashion week convention by showing when and where he wanted, in July produced his first couture collection in six years to rapturous reviews. Now some of his most iconic dresses are going on display in the glass-roofed gallery next to his studio and home in the Marais district where he used to show his creations.
