Police and opposition protesters clashed Thursday in the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo as nationwide demonstrations against veteran President Joseph Kabila turned violent.
Security forces fired tear gas at around 5,000 stone-hurling protesters in northern Kinshasa, AFP reporters on the ground said.
