South African riot police in the capital Pretoria launched stun grenades at students protesting against fee hikes on Friday as some demonstrators tried to force their way towards government headquarters, AFP reporters said.
Thousands of students gathered near the Union Buildings in Pretoria, where President Jacob Zuma was set to address the crowd after meeting with student leaders and university officials amid several days of growing protests.
