US national security chief says engagement with China has shown 'real value'

National Security Advisor Susan Rice defended President Barack Obama's rebalance to Asia and his engagement with China Monday, amid a stridently anti-Chinese election campaign.
"There is real value in, first of all, more engagement with China, more diplomacy, more channels and multifaceted discussions and often, not always, that can yield progress," Rice told AFP in an exclusive interview.
