His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa has today visited the southern region, accompanied by the Duke of Westminster Gerald Cavendish Grosvenor.
HM the King's Personal Representative, President of the Supreme Council for the Environment(SCE) His Highness Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al-Khalifa briefed them on the project to launch the houbara conservation project(Chlamydotis undulate).
The project follows HM the King's royal directives to conserve this species of birds, provide them with breeding habitats in the Southern governorate and protect them from overhunting and poaching as part of efforts to preserve the wildlife and marine resources.
The UAE-based International Fund for Houbara Conservation offered Bahrain a number of Asian Houbara birds, also known as MacQueen’s houbara (Chlamydotis macqueenii), as part of efforts to provide sustainable breeding habitats for this species
HM the King and the Duke of Westminster watched the launch of a group of houbara birds as part of the conservation project which aims at ensuring their reproduction in Bahrain and preserving them from extinction.
HM the King extended thanks to UAE President Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al-Nahyan and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince, UAE Armed Forces Deputy Commander in Chief General Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan on the generous initiative which epitomizes strong fraternal cooperation.
He hailed the efforts of HH Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al-Khalifa as well as the Supreme Council for the Environment to achieve sustainable fauna and flora and provide breeding habitats for rare species in danger of extinction.
HH Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al-Khalifa also paid tribute to HM the King hailing royal support for the SCE-lad efforts to conserve wildlife sustainability.
He also extended deep thanks to UAE President Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al-Nahyan and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince, UAE Armed Forces Deputy Commander in Chief General Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan for offering Bahrain a group of Asian Houbara birds.
