Kuwait - KUNA

The cabinet has affirmed that the constructions of the underway Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah Bridge have nothing to do with the phenomenon of fish deaths on the Al-Shwaikh Coast in the Kuwait Bay.
The findings were confirmed during a weekly cabinet meeting held at Al-Seif Palace here on Monday under chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister, Interior Minister and Acting Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs.
The cabinet also discussed a report compiled by the Environment Public Authority on mass fish deaths on the Al-Shuaikh Coast, together with procedures like aerial and marine surveys and sample analyses aiming to put an end to this serious phenomenon, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs and Acting Minister of Justice Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah said in a statement following the meeting.
In this regard, the cabinet appreciated the sincere efforts of state bodies concerned in order to fight fish-perishing, while stressing the significance of exerting more concerted efforts to take preventive measures in order to protect environment in the country, the minister said.
Also during the routine meeting, the ministers approved a draft decree convening the National Assembly for the ordinary third session of the 14th legislative term on October 28 as per Article 86 of the Constitution.
The draft was sent to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for final approval, he added.
The ministers also approved a memo of understanding between Kuwait and the Netherlands on bilateral cooperation in the field of environmental protection and conservation of natural resources as well as sustainable development, the minister noted.
They also consented to a cooperative agreement between Kuwait and Greece in the tourist area, and a memo of understanding between Kuwait and Iran in youth and sport domains.
Moreover, the revised charter of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which was adopted in Dakar in Senegal, was granted during the cabinet meeting.
All the memos of understanding and agreements were referred to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for final approval.
The cabinet finally discussed several political reports on the latest regional and international developments.
