Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA)
Dubai - WAM

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has won the Best Employee Idea 2015 award from the German Institute for Ideas and Innovation Management during the Ideas and Innovative Management conference held recently in Germany.
DEWA’s team included Matar Al-Mehairi, Islam Abuhamdah, Awad Mahmoud Ibrahim Aljawawdeh and Usama Omar Mohamed Radwan.
DEWA won the Best Employee Idea Award for an innovation by Distribution Power Division staff to mitigate fire cases in electricity substations by using Linear Heat Detection (LHD) cables. The system provides an alarm and automatically trips the fuse switch when a high temperature is detected.
"This recognition is the result of DEWA’s commitment to the National Innovation Strategy, launched by Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to make the UAE one of the most innovative countries in the world over the next seven years. The Award reflects DEWA’s continuous efforts in adopting and implementing creativity and innovation across all its functions, divisions, and services. It also supports DEWA’s goal to establish its global position as an industry leader," said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA.
"We are proud of this prestigious award that reflects the innovative and creative abilities of DEWA staff. It is the second time this innovative idea gets a prominent global recognition. DEWA won the Idea of the Year Award at Ideas UK conference last December. This illustrates the importance and value of this innovation. Energy organisations recognise the importance of this innovation and its success in saving time and efforts, and protecting people, properties, and substations. It also reflects the remarkable status DEWA has achieved in using technological innovation in its operations," added Al Tayer.
"DEWA works to improve its organisational performance in all areas. It adopts a comprehensive strategy to motivate and support its staff and implement their innovative ideas and suggestions. This has contributed to boosting the competitiveness of our staff and enabled them to achieve outstanding successes and quality achievements that compete with their peers in international organisations," concluded Al Tayer.
"At DEWA, we encourage staff creativity by providing a motivating positive work environment. We have different comprehensive training programmes that boost the knowledge and creative capabilities of our staff. We strengthen this through incentives and awards all year to promote positive competitiveness among staff," said Dr. Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources at DEWA.
