UAE Energy Status
Dubai - WAM

The Ministry of Energy yesterday announced the issuing of the second UAE Energy Status Report 2016, confirming that the report will be launched on the 22nd October.

The report will focus on the renewable energy contributions made by both private and public institutions towards the sustainable energy development of the nation. The report's second edition is supported and quality assured by the United Nations Development Programme, UNDP.

According to Suhail bin Mohammed Faraj Faris Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy, the report is a 'who's who' of players in the industry, giving them the opportunity to share their success stories and future strategies to a global audience. "The report has been aligned with the Ministry's strategy to engage stakeholders in its journey towards a diversified and efficient energy sector," he said.

The publication enjoys the support of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, DEWA, as title sponsor, along with Emirates National Oil Company, ENOC, Dolphin Energy, Abdul Latif Jameel Energy and Environmental Services, eSolar, Emerson's and InSinkerator.

New elements being introduced into the 2016 report include a benchmarking mechanism indexing the performance of national energy sectors in the areas of security, equality and environmental sustainability starting with the UAE. In the future, the index will include data from other countries, enabling an annual global comparison.

The eight-chapter report encompasses sustainability, energy resources and consumption, as well as climate change, and will be guided by the expertise and insiders from the UAE energy sector.

Dr. Mattar Al Neyadi, Under-Secretary at the Ministry of Energy, said, "At the core of the report are our partners, without whom this publication would not see the light of day. We are especially grateful to Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, Saif Al Falasi, CEO of ENOC, Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh, CEO of Dolphin Energy Limited, Ibrahim Al Ansari, Faris Saif Al Mazrouei, Chief Executive Officer at Etihad Rail Company, and Roberto de Diego Arozamena, CEO of Abdul Latif Jameel Energy, for their continuous support."

The report will be compiled in close co-operation with the Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence and the UNDP.
