Sharjah - Arabstoday

The cloudy weather since Sunday morning could only produce light showers in some coastal areas of the UAE. The rain did bring down the temperatures in Sharjah, from Saturday’s maximum of 38°C to below 32°C on Sunday. The significant drop in temperatures was a relief to inhabitants in the coastal areas — who are bracing for a harsh summer in less than a month. Sunday morning was windy and dusty, with wind speed peaking at 17 knots, which however, tapered off later in the afternoon. Meanwhile, the wind over Dubai was stronger even at mid-afternoon on Sunday, causing the sea to be moderate to rough in the early hours. Meteorologists in Sharjah said that this weather pattern would continue on Monday with fluctuating temperatures and humidity. The maximum temperature recorded in Abu Dhabi at 2.30pm on Sunday was 29°C. As cloud density increased over the mountainous regions of the capital, scattered rains were reported by the evening. Clouds and wind ensured that day temperatures sank below the level that was forecast on Saturday, the National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) said. The coastal and western areas will experience almost the same weather pattern on Monday and Tuesday, with a chance of some light rain. Light to moderate winds in general, freshening at times, with the sea being slight to moderate in general, are predicted. The condition over the sea is likely to be generally light to moderate, but it could worsen depending on wind speeds, Met sources added. The weather, which had been steady since last Wednesday, turned hot the next couple of days, with temperatures climbing up to 38°C. Then came the U-turn on Sunday.
