Wolf suspected of biting teen is captured and killed

Federal Wildlife officials said they captured and killed a 75-pound adult male wolf suspected of attacking a teenager in Minnesota\'s Chippewa National Forest. The 16-year-old was sleeping outside his tent near Lake Winnibigoshish when he was bitten on the face by a wolf, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported. The unidentified youth told officials the wolf ran away after he stood up and kicked it. The boy was treated for a gash on the back of his head and canine puncture wounds on both sides of his face, officials said. The wolf\'s body was taken to the University of Minnesota veterinary school where it will be tested for rabies. Veterinarians will also collect DNA in an effort to match it to wolf saliva samples taken from the victim. It was the first documented wolf attack in Minnesota history. \"This is a rare occurrence,\" said Tom Provost, enforcement manager for the state Department of Natural Resources.
