Leslie, Michael stirring up the Altantic

Winds from Tropical Storm Leslie swept across Bermuda Sunday as the system moved north in the Atlantic Ocean, forecasters in Miami said. At 11 a.m. EDT, the National Hurricane Center reported the storm was moving northward at 9 mph and was centered 140 miles east of Bermuda. The island\'s government posted a tropical storm warning and braced for 2-4 inches of rain. Sustained winds were 60 mph with higher gusts and extended outward 195 miles, the forecasters said. There were favorable conditions for the system to gain strength and again become a hurricane in the next day or two, the report said. The storm was expected to kick up surf from Florida to the Canadian Maritimes, the forecast said. Hurricane Michael continued to churn in the mid-Atlantic Sunday but was not threatening land. The Hurricane Center said the category 1 storm was about 955 miles west-southwest of the Azores with sustained winds of about 95 miles per hour. Michael was expected to gain speed as it turns to the north-northwest but was also expected to weaken to a tropical storm by Tuesday.
