Honda S660 Concept for Tokyo

Honda\'s most recent attempt to resurrect one of its sports cars, the CR-Z, hasn\'t exactly set the world on fire. The styling\'s great, just how you would want a modern CR-X to look, but its 137hp hybrid powertrain isn\'t exactly sparkling. But Honda is having another attempt at a small and fun car, we hope, by revealing the S660 concept ahead of the Tokyo motor show. Not only does the name evoke the S600 and S800 roadsters of the 60s, it\'s also rather reminiscent of the early-90s Beat. Both are diminutive mid-engined roadsters with tiny engines and styling cues not too far removed from the rest of the contemporary Honda range. There are certainly hints of the current Civic from the back of the S660, for example. The influence of the 2011 EV-STER concept is clear to see also. Just in case there hadn\'t been enough 660cc roadsters on PH this week, the S660 is another. Unfortunately, the 64hp engine is mated to a CVT gearbox, which isn\'t ideal. Aside from the rather awkward wheel, the interior looks great. There\'s plenty of (real) carbon and some funky displays, but nothing wild enough to make production look totally unfeasible. We were promised the EV-STER back at the end of 2011, clearly to no avail. With its more conventional powertrain, the S660 does appear a more realistic prospect.
