Kuala Lumpur - Arabstoday

Malaysia's Asian Broadcasting Network (ABN) is to have Motorola Mobility as its technology partner for the launch of its digital cable TV network, in the second quarter of 2012. Within the next five years, the new network will give six million households access to more than 200 channels of news, education, entertainment, movies, sports and local programming. Motorola's technology will enable ABN to support future services such as video on demand (VOD), social TV, and interactive gaming, as well as high-speed internet and voice services. Sreedhar Subramaniam, CEO and director of ABN, said: ''With this partnership, we will have both the infrastructure and content management capabilities to make good on our commitment to deliver triple-play services nationwide. ABN expects to capture a significant share of the market and sign on three million new subscribers within these five years to deliver on our vision of providing 'Access for All'.'' Kevin Keefe, VP and GM, home business, Motorola Mobility, Asia Pacific, added: ''ABN's digital cable TV network will significantly change the dynamics of TV viewing in Malaysia by offering access to a much greater range of viewing choices and interactive services, opening up new video and broadband experiences for Malaysians. Motorola Mobility will provide ABN with the digital head-end, the set-top boxes and broadband access equipment and design services necessary to build the hybrid fibre-coax (HFC) network, for triple-play services in Malaysia.
