Nigeria arrests Burundian woman in possession of heroin

Nigerian authorities have arrested a 38-year-old Burundian woman in possession of 2.39 kg heroin, according to information reaching Xinhua on Friday. Uwimana Aisha, the suspected Burundian drug courier, was arrested on Thursday on arrival from Tanzania by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, Mitchell Ofoyeju, spokesperson of the anti-narcotics agency, said in a statement. "The drugs were concealed in two parcels in her hand luggage," he said, adding the suspect had already made confessional statements. Ofoyeju said, according to investigation, the drug suspect was supposed to take a flight into the West African country together with her Nigerian boyfriend who lives in Tanzania. She claimed the bag containing the white substance was given to her by the boyfriend who promised to join her in Nigeria on Friday. "The case is still under investigation," the agency's mouthpiece added. Charged with eliminating the growing, processing, manufacturing, selling, exporting and trafficking of hard drugs in Nigeria, the NDLEA is present in international airports, seaports and borders of the West African country. The government agency also targets the leaders of narcotics and money laundering organizations in Nigeria.
