The member of the Supreme Council for Women, Dalal Al-Zayed held a meeting with the First Counsellor at U.N. Women’s Regional Bureau for Arab States, Dr. Shirin Shokry to discuss the Council’s preparations for the Second National Conference for Bahraini Women during next October. The meeting will be held under the patronage of the Wife of HM the King, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Women, Her Royal Highness, Princess Sabeeka Bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa. During the meeting, Al-Zayed discussed with the expert, Shirin Shokry, the role of the Legislative Authority during the follow-up stages for implementing the national model of integrating women’s needs in development, and highlighted the most important achievements and challenges to start for a future vision in the light of the local, regional and international developments. It is known that Dr. Shirin Shokry has attained the PHD in the area of gender and development from University of Bristol, and has a practical experience in a number of posts of which she occupied such as Director of Regional Projects at U.N. Bureau, the Political Leadership Programme, and Economic Empowerment at the Women’s Regional Bureau during the period from 2009 till now. Dr. Shirin Shokry also occupied the post of the Director of Arab Women’s Parliamentary Project, UNIFEM, the Regional Bureau of the Arab Women during the period from 2005 to 2008, and as an Assistant Professor at Jordan University from 2004 to 2007. She also occupied the post of the Project Director of the Equivalent Gender measured through the statistical projects, UNIFEM, the Regional Bureau for the Arab States during the period from 2002 to 2004. It is worth mentioning that since the establishment of the National Committee to Follow up and Implement the National Model by Integrating Women’s needs into the work programme of the government headed by the Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Women, Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka Bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa and the council with all its leaders is working to achieve such aim, and elevate women’s standard in all areas. Among the priorities the council cares to achieve is “Equal opportunities,” which led to an initiative of a number of governmental ministries and institutions to establish “Equal Opportunities Unit” in each one of them. It is noteworthy, that His Majesty King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa has issued a Royal Order No. (14) for 2011 to establish and organize the National Committee to Follow up and Implement the National Model by Integrating Women’s needs in the work programme of the government chaired by Her Royal Highness the Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Women, Princess Sabeeka Bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa.
