4G networks in Holland can distort television signals

Dutch cable companies warn that 4G Internet networks in the Netherlands can distort television signals, Dutch media reported Monday. The main reason for the distortion is that some 4G frequencies are the same as some television broadcasters, which sometimes leads to the disappearance of the signal or to distorted screen images, the Dutch broadcast company NOS said. In several Dutch towns there have been complains about affected Dutch and international channels. Cable companies are advising households to get better insulated cables, which reduces the chance of disturbances. Cable companies expect the disruption to be worsen when 4G services extend, NOS said. 4G is the fourth generation of mobile network technologies and the successor to the 2G and 3G network that enabled consumers to call, text and access the Internet on mobile phones. 4G was initially rolled out in the Netherlands in the summer of 2012.
