Global investors eyeing regional digital media, satellite sectors

Global investors are looking to tap into growing regional digital media and satellite sectors, a report has claimed on the first day of the Cabsat Mena (Middle East and North Africa) exhibition in Dubai. Analysis firm Euroconsult says the value of satellite capacity leasing is expected to grow at 7 per cent annually over the next ten years, driven by connectivity needs and the growth of digital TV in emerging markets. Combined with the launch of new generation High Satellite Systems (HSS), interest has increased for cable and satellite professionals through the region. The revenue of the global commercial satellite cap-acity is expected to reach $17.2 billion in 2020, up from $10.1 billion in 2010, according to a report by NSR, a US-based market research and consulting firm specialising in satellite and wireless technology. \"The broadcasting and satellite industry is one of the most vibrant in the region today and the creativity and commercial dynamics presented at the show are illustrative of the success of this thriving sector,\" said Trixee Loh, senior vice-president of Exhibitions at Dubai World Trade Centre, the organisers of Cabsat Mena. The 18th edition of Cabsat Mena started yesterday at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre and will end tomorrow.
