Video Foxconn has allowed a journalist to film inside an Apple iPad factory in Shenzen, revealing a fresh-faced workforce. The resulting three-minute video shows young Chinese employees at the quarter-of-a-million-strong factory filing into work at 7am, fitting motherboards into cases on clean, brightly lit assembly lines and playing football on Foxconn-provided pitches. Meanwhile 500 hopeful workers queue outside looking for jobs. Some naked fondleslabs appear in the vid too, including a batch undergoing a gyroscope test. At least 55 million iPads have been sold by Apple since the tablet launched in 2010. It\'s the second time a hack has been allowed to film inside a Foxconn factory. In this instance bosses gave the privilege to Rob Schmitz - the reporter who dismantled the This American Life radio documentary about the alleged horrors of working inside one. This American Life broadcast claims by actor Mike Daisey about the lives and working conditions of Foxconn workers, which sparked a scandal when revealed - and another one when certain key facts were disproved by Schmitz, a bureau chief on Marketplace, another public radio show. Schmitz says a quarter of a million people work in the Shenzen factory where he taped, mostly between 18 and 25 years of age. Most of the workers are migrants from inland China and many return home after a stint working there.
