Google's microchip looking Doodle today celebrates 84th birth anniversary of Robert Noyce. Also called "the Mayor of Silicon Valley", Noyce co-invented integrated circuit along with Jack Kilby. Robert Noyce was a co-founder of both Fairchild Semiconductor and Intel Corporation, and an investor and advisor in several other companies. Holder of several patents, Robert Noyce was born on December 12, 1927 in Burlington, Iowa. He did his BA from Grinnell College in Iowa. In 1953, Robert Noyce accomplised his PhD in physical electronics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Robert Noyce helped found the Semiconductor Industry Association, was a Regent of the University of California, served on the President's Commission on Industrial Competitiveness, and was the first chief executive officer of SEMATECH. According to his profile on Intel website, there was another side to Robert Noyce beyond his public stature and acclaim. He flew planes, sang madrigals, and skied treacherous slopes. To honour this unique legacy, the Noyce family created the Robert Noyce Foundation.
