A Wall Street Journal (WSJ) report on Wednesday, citing people familiar with the matter, said that Google Inc. has developed the first touchscreen laptops powered by its Chrome operating system. These are slated to be sold later this year. As Google tries to go compete with Microsoft Corp.’s Windows operating system, the WSJ report said the new Chrome devices would also compete with devices powered by Google’s operating system—Android—which has taken the smartphone and tablet market by storm in recent years, propelling Google to a major force in mobile-device software. The report also said that it is unclear exactly when the Chrome touchscreen laptops will go on sale and which hardware manufacturer is working with Google to build them. Livetime
