World Bank mulls $1bn loan for Jordan

President of the World Bank Jim Yong Kim on Wednesday said the bank is mulling over providing Jordan with a one-billion-dollar loan to Jordan; $800 million to support infrastructure projects and $200 million to the state treasury, but negotiations over the loan haven’t been started yet.
Kim told a joint news conference with Jordan’s Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Ibrahim Saif that Jordan bears massive burdens as a result of the flow of Syrian refugees, stressing the bank’s commitment to standing by Jordan in the current circumstances, according to (Petra) news agency.
He said that he spoke to King Abdullah II of Jordan about the need to explore major investment projects so that the International Finance Corporation can invest in these projects.
For his part, Minister Ibrahim Saif said the visit discussed regional challenges and was an opportunity to reaffirm the bank’s support and commitment to Jordan in the current circumstances, and discussed ways to increase strategic cooperation between Jordan and the World Bank.
