Dr. James Humphres
Khartoum - SUNA

Dr. James Humphres , Head of Sudan Archeological Research, at the London College in Qatar, has pointed out that the Begrawiya pyramids date back to over 2500 years.

She said this areas was one of the oldest in the history of the world, that is why it was named Birmingham of Africa as it excelled in iron industries

In a statement to the Sudan news agency SUNA she pointed out that the Kush Kingdom produced huge amounts of iron and that there are indices that showed a full-fledged iron industry had developed in that area, reflecting the highly skilled human cadres involved in the industry.

She said the question remained whether these industries and the iron extraction was used for production of agricultural tools or for military weapons, such as the bows and arrows in which the Sudanese kingdom people excelled at the level of the world.

She reaffirmed that Diodorus the Sicilian had reported the merweat people were agile in the use of arrows and bows and in hitting the targets.
