Egypt's Al Azhar has voiced concern about conditions of the Rohingya Muslims fleeing oppression in Myanmar.

The Rohingya Muslims are reportedly refused entry to any of the neighboring states and are counting on humanitarian conscience to save them from the imminent threat they are facing, Al Azhar said in a statement.

It strongly condemned assaults against Muslims in Myanmar, citing oppression and forced displacement. Muslim houses and mosques in Myanmar are being burned, the statement said, adding that the Muslims there are deprived of the simplest citizenship rights.

Neighboring states should live up to their humanitarian responsibility toward those refugees and should provide a safe haven and decent life for them, Al Azhar urged.

It called on the world community and human rights organizations, as well as the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, to quickly act to save Myanmar's Muslims from oppression and displacement.

They should pressure the authorities in Myanmar to stop such practices which violate all norms of humanity and heavenly religions, the statement stressed.
