Azerbaijan and Georgia on Monday agreed to hold various cultural and sporting events on the border to further promote bilateral relations. The announcement came after Azerbaijan\'s Minister of Youth and Sports Azad Rahimov met with his Georgian counterpart Levan Kipiani on Monday here. During the meeting, Rahimov and Kipiani discussed issues related to the implementation of existing agreements on cooperation in the fields of youth and sports between the two countries. They agreed that relevant departments of both sides will work together on various events to be held on the Azerbaijani-Georgian border. Rahimov stressed the important role of sports in modern society, notably from the political, social, cultural and economic perspectives. The two ministers reaffirmed the importance of Azerbaijani- Georgian cooperation in this field. Neighboring Azerbaijan and Georgia restored their independence and diplomatic ties in the early 1990s after the collapse of the Soviet Union, of which they were former republics.
