Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Khartoum - SUNA

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that closure of the Iranian Cultural Centre was taken after it became a threat to the intellectual and social security of Sudan.
In a press statement, the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yousif Al-Kordofani, said that the Sudanese authorities remained following up the activity of the Iranian Cultural Centre and its branches in the states, and got assured that this centre has surpassed the mandate and jurisdiction given to it, a matter that rendered it posing a threat to the intellectual and cultural security of Sudan.
He said that the authorities found it necessary to shut down the Iranian Cultural Centre and its branches.
Ambassador Al-Kordofani stated that the Iranian Cultural Centre was one for cultural exchange between Sudan and Iran, but became a source of threat to the intellectual and social security in the country.
Ambassador Al-Kordofani pointed out that the Iranian Charge d'Affaires to Khartoum was summoned and informed about the decision on closure of the Iranian Cultural Centre, adding that the Iranian Cultural Attaché was given 72 hours to leave the country.
