
A dictionary about the history of Algerian theatre since 1920 has been published by Dalimen Publishing House, a 455-page work by Achour Cheurfi. The dictionary is accessible to theatre lovers, professionals, specialists, critics, as well as the general public. The users will discover that the pioneers of Algerian theatre were Allalou, Ksentini, Dahmoune and Bachetarzi. In the dictionary’s introduction, the author underlined that the first theatre performances during the period between the two world wars caught only the interest of small audiences, made up of the Arabic-educated elite as they were played in classical Arabic. The dialect was introduced to theatre only years later, broadening theatre audience.
