Dr. Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Speaker of the Federal National Council, FNC, has received Fayhan Al Fayez Shalhoub, Ambassador of the Republic of Colombia to the UAE. Ahmed Shabib Al Dhaheri, FNC Secretary-General, and a number of officials also attended the meeting.

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the bilateral relations between the UAE and Colombia, the progress achieved through partnership in various fields, as well as means to further support and develop ties to serve the shared interests of the two countries.

The FNC Speaker and Colombian Ambassador also exchanged views on regional and international developments.

Dr. Amal Al Qubaisi highlighted the bilateral relations between the UAE and the Republic of Colombia, adding that the two countries have witnessed increased cooperation in recent years, reflecting the leadership of both states' keenness to develop said relations further, as well as the vital role played by the UAE-Colombian Joint Committee and the UAE-Colombian Businessmen Forum.

She also referred to the importance of parliamentary relations in achieving rapprochement and common interests between friendly nations.

The Colombian ambassador expressed his thanks for the reception, stressing that bilateral ties between the two countries have witnessed steady growth. Ambassador Shalhoub voiced his admiration for the UAE's achievements and continued development.

Al Qubaisi and Shalhoub also discussed the UAE's efforts to fight terrorism and its ambitions to enhance international peace and security. Dr. Al Qubaisi explained the state's vision to spread the values of tolerance and coexistence and to counter radical and extremist thought.

The two parties spoke on the measures taken by the four countries to curb Qatar's support for and financing of terrorist organisations, noting that these demands relate not only to the national security of the four nations, but also to attain regional and global security and stability of states.

Al Qubaisi said that the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Egypt had provided the Qatari leadership with many opportunities to retreat from its stubborn stance and to place the best interests of the Qatari people at the top of their priorities and interests. She emphasised that the UAE will continue its efforts and development plans to provide a secure, stable and prosperous environment for future generations.

Mr. Shalhoub affirmed his country's position in support of counter-terrorism measures and the need to address the danger of these organisations and groups, which undermine security and stability in various countries around the world.

At the end of the meeting, the two sides agreed on the need to strengthen international cooperation in the field of combating terrorism and adopt policies and procedures to dry up its sources of support and funding.
