Amman - Arab Today

Jordanian Prime Minister Hani Mulki and Slovenian President Borut Pahor on Sunday discussed ways of enhancing bilateral relations in all fields in addition to the latest developments in the Middle East, Petra news agency reported.

During the meeting, the Jordanian prime minister highlighted the repercussions of the regional turmoil on his country, especially the Syrian crisis.

Jordan is looking forward to the role that could be played by Slovenia, through its membership in the European Union, to support the country to shoulder the burden of hosting refugees, he added.

Mulki said Jordan is dealing with Syrian refugees on behalf of the international community.

He also reviewed the political and economic reforms process, Jordan is implementing, voicing pride of what have been accomplished in the area of political reform, despite regional circumstances.

The premier emphasized the centrality of the Palestinian issue in the Middle East, stressing the need to restart negotiations between the Palestinians and Israelis and reach a just and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue based on international legitimacy resolutions and the two-state solution.

The Slovenian president affirmed the importance of Jordan's role in the region and the world, saying: "Jordan is one of the pillars of stability in the Middle East."

He commended the Jordanian diplomacy led by King Abdullah II that calls for finding political solutions to the Middle East crises.

Pahor added he would discuss with European leaders what shall be done by Europe to support Jordan, which is hosting a huge number of refugees, particularly Syrians.

He stressed the importance of paying more attention to the Palestinian issue, pointing out that the time has come to find lasting solutions, not partial ones.

The Slovenian president also welcomed Jordanian businessmen in his country to look at opportunities and areas of cooperation between the two countries.
