Cairo - Arab Today

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and his Togolese counterpart Faure Gnassingbe stressed the importance of cementing cooperation between the two countries to achieve development and fight terrorism and poverty in Africa.

This came during a press conference the two leaders held at Ittihadia palace on Sunday.

President Sisi described his talks with Gnassingbe as fruitful, saying they dealt with bilateral relations and African and international issues of mutual concern.
President Sisi said he agreed with the Togolese President on promoting efforts of regional cooperation to fight terrorism and extremism which threatens the whole world and affects social and economic development efforts in the African continent.

He said his talks with Gnassingbe also focused on peace and security in north and west Africa with the aim of putting an end to the conflicts in the region.

President Sisi said his talks with the Togolese leader covered maritime security, piracy and the challenges the African continent is facing.

President Sisi expressed hope that the signing of memos of understanding and cooperation agreements would lead to achieving prosperity and progress for the Togolese people.

For his part, the Togolese president said that president Sisi has been giving priority, since he assumed responsibility in Egypt, to cementing ties with Africa, expressing satisfaction at the results of the talks he held with Sisi.

President Gnassingbe pointed out to the importance of cooperation between the two countries and also among all African nations, saying the agreements and memos of understanding reached by the two countries covered many domains such as housing, health, agriculture and sports.

He said that his country shares Egypt's viewpoints on the importance of combating terrorism and security threats, adding he agreed with president Sisi on working on uprooting terrorism.

The Togolese leader praised the volume of investment in the Egyptian infrastructure which he said would give an impetus to Egypt's economy.

He said Egypt's non-permanent membership at the Security Council would help resolve African problems.
