Preparations have been made in Qena to receive Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria and Patriarch of Saint Mark Diocese on his first visit to the Upper Egyptian city since his inauguration.
The pope is expected here Wednesday to visit a number of churches and monasteries.
Qena Police are on high alert ahead of the visit and security measures have been intensified around churches and monasteries.
Troops have also been deployed at entrances to and exits of Qena.
