Destination Review: Singapore

An oft visited destination, Singapore is just a five-hour flight away from Mumbai and a great place to spend your summer vacation. There's lots that you can do in this sunny paradise city, which is incidentally a country in its own right as well. Singapore offers a range of activities and places to see, no matter what kind of a traveller you are. Shopper's delight You cannot visit Singapore and not shop. It would almost be a crime with all the dozens of malls that beckon you. Each dazzling mall holds numerous branded shops. Orchard Road is the place to be! Those looking for bargain buys, can check out Lucky Plaza or Far East Plaza for fashion street prices and decent maal. Here you will find stylish shoes, dresses, apparels and accessories. Those with more refined taste can head to Paragon or Takashimaya for stunning designer products at equally stunning prices. Check out for stores that are holding sales. Men can go for awesome electronic items, gadgets, perfumes, and a whole lot of accessories. Culture vulture Get a dose of culture by taking a heritage tour of the city. The merlion is a big tourist attraction or you can even check out the Singapore eye that gives you a bird's eye of the city. Chinatown and Little India give you a dose of Indian and Chinese culture. There's also the National museum of Singapore as well as The Art Museum that constantly hold interesting exhibits. Visit some parks When in Singapore, you must pay a visit to the Jurong Bird Park and check out the variety of exotic birds. The Singapore zoo is especially charming for kids to see and learn about different animals. Explore the wildlife at night at the Singapore Night Safari that takes you through a tram or walking trails and shows animals one often fails to notice. Taste of adventure Sentosa island a quick 40 minutes drive from the main city requires nearly a day to explore. Here they have an ocean park with some exotic sea animals, adventure in the form of para jumping, zipping and luge rides. It's also a great place to let loose and chill by the beach. The recently opened Universal Studios Theme Park located nearby is a must visit for all movie enthusiasts and features some fun rides. Finally at the end of a long day of sightseeing, there is nothing better than to have a drink and groove to music at one of the nightclubs at Clarke Quay. With the pretty urban waterfront to look out at, it even makes an ideal location for a romantic dinner for two.
