The Sultanate of Oman hosted last year up to 2.2 million tourists, said the Tourism Undersecretary, Maythaa Al-Mahroukiah, in a freshly-released statement.
Number of the tourists visiting the Sultanate is forecast to increase 16 percent this year, the official said, indicating that hotels' occupancy has also gone high.
As part of a strategy focusing on "qualitative tourism," the authorities have opened a large number of representation offices in European countries for coordination with European authorities, tourism companies and hotels.
"Our promotion of the sector also covers luring enterprise in tourism and other domains," the Undersecretary explained further.
There are 22 states "which we consider as important in the tourism market," said Al-Mahroukiah, adding that last year, commercial offices were opened in Holland, Italy and Switzerland, also indicating that Muscat planned to take similar steps in China and the United States of America.
