Warsaw - Xinhua

Warsaw\'s Frederic Chopin Airport will remain closed until 8:00 a.m. local time on Wednesday after an emergency landing of a Polish airlines Boeing 767 on Tuesday afternoon, local media reported. The plane from Newark of the United States, with 230 passengers aboard, made an emergency landing in Warsaw after its landing gear failed to open. No one aboard the plane was injured, said Leszek Chorzewski, spokesperson for LOT, the Polish airline that operated the flight. \"All safety procedures worked perfectly well and, thanks to this, there were no casualties,\" Chorzewski stressed. A fire brigade laid out special material with fire-fighting substances for the plane to land on and passengers were evacuated from the plane. The airport has been closed for all flights until 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday. It means that no plane will either take off or land from and in Warsaw until 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, according to Leszek Chorzewski. All planes that were to land in Warsaw will be directed to other Polish airports, Chorzewski said. Poland\'s President Bronislaw Komorowski, in a televised speech, thanked the pilots and crew of the plane and all the airport services and praised the behaviour of the passengers \"who effectively cooperated during this very difficult moment.\" The president said that the emergency landing was successful as the entire system and all the people passed the test.
