Qantas flight makes emergency landing after 'sparks flew from engine'
Qantas
Abu Dhabi - Emirates Voice
A Qantas A380 ferrying hundreds of passengers from Los Angeles to Melbourne has been forced to turn back after an engine failure, the airline said Sunday.
The QF94 service was two hours into its trip on Friday evening when the pilot was forced to abort the flight, with passengers saying sparks were seen coming from one of the four engines.
"@Qantas Flight94 to Melb returned to LAX with sparks coming from an engine & now being inspected," tweeted passenger RobD.
Qantas said the sparks may have been from the engine overheating but denied reports in Australia that it caught fire.
"Friday night's QF94 A380 service from Los Angeles to Melbourne turned back to LA because of an issue with one of the aircraft's four engines," the airline said in a statement.
"The pilots followed standard procedure, shut down the engine, and the flight landed normally in LA at around 3am local time on Saturday.
"Engineers are inspecting the aircraft."
Passengers were put on a replacement flight, with the Australian Transport Safety Bureau notified about the incident.

to 'eternal style' of late Alaia
Paris - Emiratesvoice
Two months after legendary designer Azzedine Alaia's sudden death plunged the fashion world into mourning, an exhibition in homage to the "King of Cling" opens Monday in his studios in Paris. The Tunisian-born designer, renowned for the way his clothes hugged the body, died suddenly in November aged 82, reportedly of heart failure after falling down the stairs at his home. The diminutive maverick, who ignored fashion week convention by showing when and where he wanted, in July produced his first couture collection in six years to rapturous reviews. Now some of his most iconic dresses are going on display in the glass-roofed gallery next to his studio and home in the Marais district where he used to show his creations. It includes the dress worn by supermodel Naomi Campbell, his longtime friend and muse, when she led
