
His Majesty King Abdullah II, on Sunday, met with Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi and discussed with him bilateral relations in various political and economic fields as well as the latest developments in the Middle East.
During the meeting, which was held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meetings, the two leaders stressed the need to create conditions conducive to the resumption of Palestinian-Israeli peace negotiations according to the two-state solution and international legitimacy resolutions to address all final status issues leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state as per 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The King stressed the need for a concerted international effort to rebuild what was destroyed by the recent Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, reviewing Jordan's efforts to provide support and humanitarian relief to the Palestinian people and hailing Egypt's pivotal role in reaching a final stop to the aggression on Gaza.
Regarding the situation in Syria and Iraq, the two leaders discussed ways of bringing a comprehensive political solution to the Syrian crisis as well as providing all the needed support to promote the unity of the Iraqi people by supporting the new Iraqi government to face the various challenges and involve all components of the Iraqi people in the ongoing political process.
As for Libya, they both stressed the importance of the unity of Libyan territory with respect for the legitimate institutions emanating from the will of the Libyan people.
King Abdullah and President Sisi also discussed efforts to counter the growing extremism and terrorism, emphasizing their support for the regional and international coalition to fight them.
The meeting was attended by Royal Court Chief, director of the King's Office, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Affairs and the King's Advisor and Rapporteur of the National Policies Council.
