Sanaa – Khalid Haroji

Yemeni President Ali Abdallah Saleh and his Deputy Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi Sanaa – Khalid Haroji Yemeni political sources revealed that efforts to mediate between Yemeni President Ali Abdallah Saleh and his Deputy Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi succeeded in easing the tension between them. Informed sources told ‘Arabstoday’ that mediators were able to get the president and his deputy to sit for a meeting, in the past few hours, which concluded in defusing the crisis, recently erupted due to Saleh’s intervention in the authorities which have been transferred to Hadi, with accordance to the GCC initiative and its mechanisms, in the light of the proposed roadmap to the peaceful transition of power.
Sources confirmed that the disputes between Saleh and Hadi resulted in the halt of a number steps included in the GCC initiative, explaining that Hadi rejected Saleh’s intervention and refused to execute his orders, leading the president to hamper the mission of the Military Committee in charge of restoring security and dissolving military tension. In addition, it delayed the decision concerning the approval of Hadi as the sole consensus candidate in the early presidential elections, February 21,  and generally resulted in raising political tension between the General People’s Congress party and the opposition parties.
Same sources stated that the resolving the crisis restored all parties to the path of political settlement, where the Military Committee, headed by Hadi, pursued its activity and determined 48 hours to start evacuating Sanaa of remaining arms. The decision was announced, Wednesday, in a meeting held by the committee, attended by representatives of political parties and social figures, who were invited by the committee to discuss the evacuation plan.
Spokesman of the Military Committee, General Ali Saeed Obeid, told the Yemeni news agency SABA that the 48 hour period begins on Thursday morning, to clear the capital of remaining forms of weapons. Obeid stated that the committee is to carry out field inspection and follow-up on Saturday, January 14, in all streets, neighborhoods, governmental and private institutions, schools, and camps. He called on all parties to commit to the committee’s instructions.
