Nafie Ali Nafie Khartoum – Abed Algayom Ashmeag Nafie Ali Nafie, assistant to Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir, ridiculed Southern Sudanese President Salva Kiir’s accusations to Khartoum’s government of looting oil, calling such accusations “nonsense”. Meanwhile, UN warned that thousands of South Sudan residents needed urgent help, pointing out the numbers of deaths due to acts of violence may be in the hundreds.
Nafie stated, speaking to the press at the headquarters of the ruling National Congress Party in Khartoum, that Salva Kiir’s accusations are “sheer nonsence” expressing his government’s readiness to assist the President of South Sudan if he lacks the courage to reveal the identity of those who stole the oil.
“Salva Kiir should have explained to the people of South Sudan from the beginning what he did to their oil which was not stolen, if part of it was really stolen. If the President of South Sudan is not brave enough to reveal those thieves to the people of the South, then he must admit that, and if he does not know them and want us to identify them for him, then we are able to do that.” Nafie added.
UN also warned, Wednesday, that thousands of South Sudan people, who are affected by the recent violent tribal acts in Jonglei, need urgent help as the number of deaths may be in hundreds, pointing out that "humanitarian operations have also been put at risk by persistent insecurity in the area.”
“A massive emergency operation is going to be needed in the weeks ahead to help people uprooted by the violence” said UN Deputy Coordinator for South Sudan Liz Grand.
Jonglei saw severe violent incidents when a column of some 6000 armed youths from the Lou Nuer tribe last week marched on Pibor town (in Jonglei), home to the rival Murle people, whom they blame for cattle raiding and have vowed to exterminate.
Gunmen burned thatch huts and looted a hospital and a clinic run by Doctors Without Borders in the worst flare-up in a dispute that has left more than 1000 dead in recent months and threatened to destabilize the fledgling nation.
