Mitsubishi becomes aircraft provider for US carrier SkyWest

SkyWest flew nearly 25 million passengers last year Mitsubishi Aircraft has confirmed a deal with US-based carrier SkyWest for 100 jets worth $4.2bn, with an option to buy another 100 planes from the Japanese firm. The Japanese company, founded in 2008 will deliver the first batch of planes from 2017, while the optional order could be delivered from 2021.
Announcing the deal, Mitsubishi Aircraft chief Hideo Egawa said: \"Without a doubt, this is a major order and significant boost for the Mitsubishi Regional Jet programme.\"
The firm\'s 70-90 seat regional jets are renowned for having next-generation design that is fuel-efficient and cuts down on noise.
The company has already signed a deal to deliver 15 planes to Japan\'s All Nippon Airways and 50 jets to US-based Trans States Holdings.
SkyWest flew about 24.5 million passengers last year after a partnership with major US carriers including Delta and United.
