1500 year-old Byzantine church discovered in Gaza

New historical site discovered in Gaza Strip Gaza – Mohammed Habib A new historical site has been unearthed in Beit Lahia, north of the Gaza Strip. According to historians, the site dates from the Byzantine era, 1500 years ago. Archeologists have been sent to location in order to analyse the site in more depth.
Archeologist Asaad Ashour said that a Byzantine church was found, which was probably deserted because of the rise of Islam in the region.
Ashour added that the church was characterised by beautiful floors, adorned with mosaics and beautiful drawings. He added the team was still in the preliminary stages of investigation and analysis of the area.
The church was discovered in a building site area. The builders had dug up two meters down, when one of the builders found human skulls and a mosaic. A team of archeologists headed to the site immediately to carry out excavations.
The first discovered element was a black and white piece of mosaic floor, on which mulberry threes were drawn.
