The Sharjah Press Club, SPC, of the Sharjah Government Media Bureau, SGMB, has presented 500 copies of the popular book, Breaking the Barrier, to students of Al Amal School for the Deaf, run by the Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services, SCHS.
The SPC initiative is part of the efforts to support the SCHS and its target groups, in order to spread awareness about its various humanitarian activities and noble services, locally and abroad.
"The book, Breaking the Barrier, features an inspiring story celebrating the strength of human resolve and hope in the face of great adversity. It is based on the story of a student named Farahana and shows that we can triumph by using the latent power and fighting spirit that we possess," SPC said.
The gift from SPC is part of its community and humanitarian action plan that the club proposes to implement this year, in line with the Year of Giving initiative launched by the UAE under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The SPC has purchased 500 copies of the book, published by the SCHS under the auspices of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Sharjah Sports Council, to present them to students in the school.
The book details how a student of the School of the Deaf, Farahana, defied all odds to succeed in life, graduating from the Department of Graphic Design at the University of Sharjah. She is now working as a graphic designer at the SCHS and is a source of inspiration, in particular to children with disabilities.
The book shines light on her heroic struggles, from how her parents first discovered her loss of hearing, the stages of treatment and the troubles she faced in her life, especially as a student, to how she succeeded with determination and resolve.
Taking advantage of the excellent services offered by Al Amal School for the Deaf, Farahana continued her education with distinction, becoming the first graduate with hearing disabilities from the University of Sharjah, and made the book a catalyst of change for many students such as herself.
