 Minister of Oil, Shaikh Mohamed bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al-Khalifa has presented the Leadership Excellence Women Awards in Industry (LEWAS) in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries with their seven categories during a dinner ceremony.
The event was organised by the Middle East Energy Events in collaboration with the National Oil & Gas Authority (NOGA) as parts of the activities of the Leading Women Awards in Industry Forum in its third edition on the side-lines of the 4th Middle East Process Engineering Conference & Exhibition (MEPEC) 2017, hosted by Bahrain under the patronage of His Royal Highness the Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa on October 9-11.

In his speech at the award ceremony, the Minister welcomed the participants of the Middle East Process Engineering Conference & Exhibition (MEPEC) 2017, hailing the good efforts exerted by the organizers, sponsors, key speakers and heads of delegates and exhibitors of this major event, and wishing them success and a pleasant stay in Bahrain. HE the Minister expressed sincere thanks and appreciation to the Leader of the Team of the Leadership Excellence Women Awards in Industry (LEWAS), Engineer Reem Al Ghanim and team members for their dedicated efforts in spreading the culture of women leadership excellence, and encouraging innovation, in addition to supporting talented women in oil and gas industry in the GCC countries. He also appreciated the role of the Judging Panel of LEWAS Awards, praising their major task in sorting out the entries and deciding on final the award winners.

This year has witnessed a growing number of entries exceeding 200 participants for the seven categories of the award: the Academic Achievement, the Academic Distinction, the Rising Star, the Leading with Excellence, the Woman of Achievement, the Champion Recognition, and the Corporate Excellence Recognition. HE the Minister highly appreciated the dedicated efforts of Her Royal Highness the Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Women HRH Princess Sabeeka bint Ebrahim Al-Khalifa in celebrating the achievements of the Bahraini woman in engineering on the Bahraini Woman Day on 01st December 2017, hailing the limitless support given by HRH to the Bahraini female engineers in all public and private sectors. He praised HRH support to the role of the Bahraini woman in the various aspects of the national growth and progress of the Kingdom as part of the activities of the Reform Program launched by His Majesty the King of Bahrain HM King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa.

The Rising Star Award was presented to Abrar Al Hadad from ARAMCO, Esra Al Husni from ADCO, and Hiya Al Jassim from GPIC. The Leading with Excellence Award was presented to Fatima Sharif from GPIC, Mariam Al Hindi from GASCO, and Rana Qadeeh from BOROUGE – UAE. The Women of Achievement Award was presented to Mena Ma’arefi from Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research, Najat Sherif from GPIC, and Merhan Kamil from ADCO. The Academic Distinction Award was presented to Lord Viva from Abu Dhabi Petroleum Institute and Somaya Al Moyid from Qatar University. The Academic Achievement Award was presented to Afsaneh Danshfar and Asma Mohamed from Qatar University, and Safiyah Khalil from Abu Dhabi Petroleum Institute. The Champion Award was presented to Adnan Al Awadhi from ADNOC, Ali Al Mashari from ARAMCO, and Mubarak Al Mutairi from Kuwait National Oil Company. The Corporate Excellence Award was presented to ADNOC and TATA Consultancy Services. Upon the conclusion of the awarding ceremony, HE the Minister congratulated the winners and wished them continued success and progress.

The Leadership Excellence for Women Awards LEWAS is an industry initiative of MEPEC 2017. It is an award program dedicated to recognizing professional excellence in women from the Oil & Gas Industry. LEWAS celebrates women who demonstrate innovation, leadership and talent in both academic and business sectors of the industry. The awards are judged by industry experts chosen from amongst the partners and committee members of MEPEC.
