The Abu Dhabi Health Services Company, SEHA, received an official delegation from the Lausanne University Hospital in Switzerland with the aim of improving co-operation in the field of healthcare services.

During the visit, which took place from 10th to 11th August, a memorandum of understanding, MoU, was signed between the parties represented by Dr. Matar Rashed Al Darmaki, Group CEO of SEHA, and Prof. Wassim Raffoul, Chairman of the Department of Plastic and Hand Surgery at the Lausanne University Hospital.

The MoU aims to establish a strategic collaboration between SEHA and Lausanne University for the exchange of international knowledge and best practices in the fields of burns, plastic and reconstructive surgery, rehabilitation and trauma. It also includes the development of a rehabilitation centre for burns in Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, co-operation to achieve international accreditations and research in the above fields, the establishment of visiting physicians and resident programmes, and training of medical and technical staff.

The most important objectives of the MoU are twinning the burn units of both parties and allowing the use of Lausanne University Hospital’s logo as well as establishing progenitor cell services in Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City.

Dr. Al Darmaki emphasised that SEHA is keen to provide patient-centric healthcare services with the highest standards of international quality and safety and improve access to it, in co-operation with international healthcare institutions. The aim is to enhance customer satisfaction levels in line with SEHA’s strategic objectives.

"The collaboration between SEHA and the experts of Lausanne University Hospital will further attract qualified people to work at the National Burn Centre in Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, which will provide world-class services by an integrated team of burn surgeons, intensive care and medical rehabilitation physicians," he added.

Professor Wassim Raffoul and his Swiss team member Dr. Anthony de Buys Roessingh, Paediatric Surgeon and Burn Specialist, expressed their pleasure to visit Abu Dhabi. They thanked SEHA for giving the Lausanne University Hospital team an opportunity to visit the Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City.

Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City is considered a leading medical landmark that reflects the progress of the emirate of Abu Dhabi in terms of advanced infrastructure and the best healthcare services for the community. The Swiss delegation also expressed the intention of future commitments to provide consultancy and training services according to the MoU signed by both parties.
