New York - Arab Today

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will visit South Korea and Japan at the end of this month. UN Spokesman Stephane Dujarric said that the UN chief's six-day visit from May 25th will start with Ban’s attendance at the Jeju Forum, KBS News Radio reported.

"On the 25th of May, the Secretary-General will participate in the Jeju Forum in the Republic of Korea, a regional multilateral dialogue platform promoting peace and prosperity in East Asia."

The UN chief’s upcoming visit will be the first since only last year but never has his homecoming been drawing so much attention.

His visit comes amid active speculations that the 71-year old UN chief could run for president back in South Korea after completing his second term at the end of 2016.

Following the Jeju Forum on the resort island of Jeju, Ban will travel to Japan's Ise-Shima region on May 26th for a summit of the Group of Seven leaders. On May 30th, he is scheduled to attend the UN Department of Public Information and Non-Governmental Organization conference in the southeastern city of Gyeongju, South Korea.

While traveling back and forth between South Korea and Japan, Ban is expected to stay in Seoul for three days. His aides said that he will spend some time with his mother and other family members.
