Almost 200 physicians in 25 countries signed up to perform 1,000 vasectomies in 24 hours to create awareness of World Vasectomy Day, its U.S. originator says. Dr. Doug Stein of Florida has traveled around the world performing live vasectomies to show men it is a simple procedure that allows men to take responsibility for family planning and prevent unintended pregnancies, the Australian Broadcasting Corp. reported. \"We\'re not really selling vasectomy; we\'re selling individual responsibility,\" he told ABC. \"Responsibility to your partner, to share in the risks associated with having a healthy sex life but not getting pregnant. In other words, to eliminate from her the female contraceptives.\" Stein performed a vasectomy in front of a live audience in Adelaide, Australia, Friday. Father of four Chris Wiren was one of 16 volunteers in Adelaide who were willing to get the snip publicly for the first World Vasectomy Day. \"I don\'t feel like any less of a man and no my voice hasn\'t gone up higher. It\'s all fine and no it didn\'t hurt,\"Wiren told ABC. Some of Stein\'s 30,000 vasectomies were captured on film, which is being premiered at the Adelaide Film Festival. Emmy Award-winning director Jonathan Stack is behind \"The Vasecomist.\" \"It\'s a win for the man, win for the children that he already has, win for his partner, and win for his planet,\" Stein said.
