757,000 head of cattle vaccinated since May in Algeria

About 757,000 head of cattle were vaccinated by the veterinary services since May 2014, in addition to the 850,000 head of cattle vaccinated between January and March as part of the preventive measures taken against foot-and-mouth disease, said Monday a source from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
“The operation which affected more than one million and a half of head of cattle since January allowed halting the disease,” the source told APS, adding that “no worrying case has been recorded so far.”
In addition to the available quantities, a batch of 900,000 vaccines will be received on August 9.
Algeria has more than 1,900,000 head of cattle.
A total of 14 provinces reported outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease, a contagious disease which spreads rapidly, according to the source.
This disease affected the provinces of Chlef, Khenchela, Jijel, Tizi Ouzou, Bordj Bou Arreridj, Djelfa, Blida, Alger, Setif, Bouira, Constantine, Batna, Medea and Bejaia
