Abu Dhabi - WAM

Under the patronage of Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, Abu Dhabi will host the 9th International Conference of Al Noor Hospital (ICAN), themed on Women's and Children's Health, on the 20th of March. The two-day conference is organised by Al Noor Hospitals Group with the participation of international speakers from around the world and more than 300 doctors and nurses specialising in diseases of children and women. The focus on women's and children's health in this year's conference was inspired by the attention given by the leadership and H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union and of the Family Development Foundation and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, to provide better preventive and remedial health services for children and women in the United Arab Emirates. Dr. Kassem Alom, CEO of Al Noor Hospitals Group in Abu Dhabi and the President of the Conference, said that each year a health topic is chosen to focus on during the Conference sessions. The conference hosts international speakers to pass on their experiences and the latest research and global studies with participation of lecturers from the U.A.E., to exchange experiences and to highlight services available in the country. This initiative has always been supported and encouraged by the Ministry of Health and the Health Authority - Abu Dhabi. The Organising Committee of the Conference focused this year on health issues related to children and women. The conference hosts 19 lecturers from ten countries including Germany, United Kingdom, United States, Italy, Egypt, Iraq, Syria, Sudan and Pakistan and the U.A.E.. Dr. Denise Howard, Consultant and Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Al Noor and the 9th ICAN Conference Co-Director, noted that the Conference sessions will focus on the diagnosis and treatment of tumours in women, new assisted reproductive techniques, varicose veins during pregnancy, routine pre-natal screening, neo-natal infectious diseases, pneumonia and diabetes in children and autism. Dr. Aman El-Duweini, Corporate Director of Continuing Medical Education at Al Noor Hospitals Group and the Secretary-General of the Conference, said that a medical exhibition will be held on the sidelines of the conference and will host group of international and local companies specialising in the field of women's and children's health.
