
The multisectoral national plan for integrated fight against risk factors for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) 2014-2018 was approved Thursday by representatives of the various stakeholder institutions, allowing the beginning of the operational phase.
The mainlines of "fight against smoking", "food and nutrition", "physical activity, sport and active mobility" and the "coordination framework," are the backbone points of the multisectoral plan on the fight against risk factors of NCDs, which returned during a workshop held at the National Institute of public Health (INSP).
Each of the four mainlines proposed by specialists in various fields and institutional representatives involved in the plan development, includes some objectives and a variety of measures to be implement at schools, health infrastructure, at the local and national level, and other areas of public life.
The Director of Prevention and Health Promotion at the Ministry of Health, Population and Hospital Reform, Smail Mesbah, stressed “the need for preventive approach based on an integrated fight strategy, especially as NCDs such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, respiratory diseases and cancers are currently arising in Algeria a public health problem and socio-economic problems."
The purpose of this project, according to Smail Mesbah, is to "develop a real strategy because we must act on the causes of these diseases: stopping smoking, reduce salt iand walking 30 minutes a day minimum."
