Another Australian hospitalised in Brisbane Salmonella crisis

   An eighth person has been hospitalized following a fatal Salmonella outbreak from Melbourne Cup functions in Brisbane, Australia's third largest capital city, local media reported Friday. The latest victim of the Brisbane Salmonella outbreak was admitted to a city hospital Thursday night. The source of the outbreak of Salmonella has been tracked to the bad eggs used by Piccalilli Catering firm in products provided to Melbourne Cup functions in Brisbane, local media said. Queensland's health authorities have confirmed Salmonella contributed to the death of a 77-year-old woman. At least 220 people have fallen ill after attending Brisbane's catered Melbourne Cup functions in early November, Queensland Health said. Health experts are concerned that more cases will emerge in the coming days. "I think we'll see secondary cases," Australian Medical Association (AMA) President Dr Steve Hambleton told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). "The public health unit is looking at this very closely, trying to provide information for individuals."
